All You Grocery Challenge Update #2

I did a little bit more shopping on my way home tonight.  Some at Albertsons and the rest at Safeway.  I was in a little bit of hurry, but I was running low on milk so I figured I would stop and grab a few things while I was out!  For one all the Kraft freebie coupons were burning a hole in my pocket : )

(everything was FREE w/ coupons besides the milk, Crystal Light, burritos, grapes, red pepper, and yogurt)

Total Out of Pocket: $14.43
Balance until Sundady:  $74.57

All You Grocery Challenge Update #1

I'm a little behind this week when it comes to grocery shopping.  I was planning to go yesterday, but with Father's day here I needed to spend some TLC time with Michael =) but  I was able to break away for a few things at Walmart.  I didn't use any coupons, but here's what I purchased.

Carne Picada Extra Thin Beef 2.68 lbs.
Bananas
Tropicana Juice (I wasn't planning on this, but it was jumping out at me)
Head of Lettuce

Total Out of Pocket: $11.00
Balance for the week: $89.00

I have two meals planned for the beef. One will be fajitas tonight (I have already have tortillas, cheese, and onion from previous weeks). And I will save half of it (already cooked) for bbq beef sandwiches on Thursday night. I have buns left over too from Bella's birthday party from last week too. Btw I just started playing with bulk cooking and being a full time working momma. I'm  lovin' it!

P.S. I'm planning on do a little bit of shopping tomorrow night so I will post pictures!

All You Grocery Challenge... how I'm going to win :-)

The All You Grocery Challenge starts this Sunday (June 20).  Hopefully you signed up because entries are closed, but I will keep you up to date on my weekly (daily sometimes) grocery trips for the next 4 weeks.

Here's how it works.  You are "challenged" to only spend $25 per week on each family member in your house (over the age 12 months).  You are graded on spending guidelines (50%), creativity and ingenuity (25%), and healthy choices (25%).

The grand prize winner will receive $1000 grocery card!  I figured what the heck I could do this blind folded lol =) so I decided to "saddle up" and go for a ride.  If, nothing more it will be fun to show you exactly what I'm buying and how much I spend on our families groceries.  To encourage you to do the same for your families.  Just think for every $0.50 you save from a coupon, that's $0.50 more you can spend some place else (or give some to someone in need).

How I'm going to win the All You Grocery Challenge :-)

  • Always stay within spending guidelines

  • Bring my family back to the dinner table and not eat out.

  • Cook in bulk and freeze for future lunches and dinners.

  • Bake more instead of purchasing snacks.

  • Eat out of our garden : )

  • Feed our family smaller portions (and let them ask for seconds).  This is not only a money saver, but a healthy tip as well.

  • Stock up on stores Loss Leaders

  • Take inventory of our stockpile and use it!

  •   Throw NO food away (again make them ask for seconds).

  • When purchasing produce only buy what's on sale!

  • No purchasing pre-made drinks... brew more sun tea (yum)!
There you have it... check back on Sunday to see what I purchased!

*Our family has two adults, a 16 year old boy and a 2 year old girl ($100 per week max).
